A representative of the Sindh Environment Department has been deputed at the Motor Vehicle Inspection (MVI) office to ensure regular monitoring of
smoke-emitting vehicles and check pollution, according to a notification issued on Sunday by the office of Sindh Chief Secretary (CS) Fazalur Rehman.
The CS took notice of editorials in newspapers as well as public complaints, and instructed the transport department and the traffic police to monitor smoke-emitting vehicles. He further said that the traffic police should ensure that traffic signals are followed, especially by motorcyclists and drivers of auto-rickshaws.
Rehman also took note of dumpers, trailers and heavy vehicles plying during the prohibited time and asked the authorities concerned to take action against them. He stressed the need to end illegal parking on streets and added that a strategy should be chalked out to deal with such issued.
The CS drew the attention of officials concerned towards unauthorised emergency lights and tinted windows on vehicles; overloading, speeding, and wrong overtaking by public transport; picking and dropping passengers without designated stops.
